D. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES. THE WISCONSIN LEGISLATURE. ASSEMBLY. L. H. BANCROFT, Speaker; O. E. SHAFFER, Chief Clerk; W. S. IRVINE, Sergeant-at-Arms. The assembly consists of 100 members. They are chosen biennally and receive $500 for their services during the term. The speaker is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as speaker. The assembly of 1909 contains 76 republicans, 19 democrats, and 5 social democrats. CHIPPEWA COUNTY. First District. The towns of Edson, Delmar, Lafayette, Sigel, Tilden and Wheaton, the 3d, 4th, 5th, 6th 8th, 9th and 10th wards of the city of Chippewa Falls, the city of Stanley, and the villages of Boyd and Cadott. Population, 1900—15,676. CLARENCE B. CULBERTSON (Rep.) was born to Edinboro, Pennsylvania, October 17, 1869. His parents moved to Augusta, Wisconsin in 1872, where they still reside. He graduated from the Augusta high school in 1888, entered the University of Wisconsin in 1890, took two years of special work in the literary course and then took the law course, graduating from the law in 1894. He began the practice of law at Stanley, In Chippewa county, in the fall of 1894, and is still engaged in the practice of his profession at that place. He served as district attorney of Chippewa county for the term beginning January, 1897. Has served as city attorney of the city of Stanley for nine terms, which office he now holds. Mr. Culbertson is married and has two boys, ten and five years old. He was elected to the assembly in 1908, receiving 2,100 votes against 1,230 votes for George Peterson (Dem.).
