D. BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES. THE WISCONSIN LEGISLATURE. ASSEMBLY. L. H. BANCROFT, Speaker; O. E. SHAFFER, Chief Clerk; W. S. IRVINE, Sergeant-at-Arms. The assembly consists of 100 members. They are chosen biennally and receive $500 for their services during the term. The speaker is chosen by the members and receives an additional $500 for his services as speaker. The assembly of 1909 contains 76 republicans, 19 democrats, and 5 social democrats. RACINE COUNTY. First District. The 1st, 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th, 8th (and at the present time, the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th) wards of the city of Racine. Population, 1900—21,807. WALLACE INGALLS (Rep.) was born November 21st, 1859, on a farm in the town of Linn, Walworth county, Wisconsin. Remained on the farm until twenty-two years of age. Taught country district schools for several winters. Graduated from the Albany Law School, Albany, New York, in 1883. Commenced practice of law at Sharon, Wisconsin, afterward removing to Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and finally coming to Racine in 1893. Has followed no other occupation except the practice of law since graduating from the law school. Held the office of district attorney of Walworth county for four years and had no other political office until he was elected to the assembly in 1908, when he received 2,856 votes against 1,987 for N.
