Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for the county of “Iowa and Territory of Michigan. “I, Thomas Holmes, an alien born, free white person of the age of forty-nine years this day, do hereby in conformity with the first condition specified in the first section of the act of Congress entitled, and act to establish an uniform rule of Naturalization, and to appeal the acts heretofore passed on the subject, "approved the 12th day of April, 1802 declare and make known to the said circuit court, that my true and proper name is Thomas Holmes, that I was born in the County of Stafford in the Kingdom of Great Britain on the 9th day of May in the year of our Lord 1786. That I am forty-nine years of age, that I belonged to the British Nation, and owed allegiance to the King of Great Britain and Ireland; “That I emigrated from the port of Liverpool in the Kingdom of Great Britain on the 25th day of July AD,1831 and landed at Philadelphia in the state of Pennsylvania, and in the United States of America, on the 15th day of September AD 1831. That I have ever since my first arrival remained within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the said United States and that it is bonafide my intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to every foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty whatever and more particularly such allegiance and fidelity as I may in anymore owe to the said King of Great Britain, wither as a citizen or subject, and to become a citizen of the United States and to locate myself for the present in the county of Iowa and Territory of Michigan where of I am now an inhabitant. That I do not now enjoy or ___ nor am I in anymore entitled to any order of distinction or title of nobility by virtue of the laws, customs or regulation of the said Kingdom of Great Britain or any other county.
