K, 14th Wis Reg. In a letter in the collections of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin (MAD 4/16/c5, Wis. Mss 147s) William Brown also of Company K, wrote to his wife, "...one of our Company, a young man named MITCHELL from Mineral Point has gone so deaf that he will have to be discharged..." Shortly after writing this letter, Brown was killed in action at Corinth, Mississippi, on Oct. 3, 1862.
