He is reported as improving, but still in a serious condition. His daughter, Mrs. Charles Sherman left Monday for Beloit to be with her father during his illness.” “Mrs. Charles Sherman, Mrs. S. R. Thomas and Eli Tyrer returned Tuesday from Beloit where they were called on account of the sickness of their father ELISHA TYRER. Mr. TYRER died on Sunday. See particulars in another column.” Dodgeville Chronicle, March 27, 1924: “CIVIL WAR VETERAN CELEBRATES 20TH ANNIVERSARY-To be eighty years old and yet have but twenty birthday anniversaries is the unique experience of Robert Tyrer, G. A. R. veteran of Austin, Minn. Born at Columbus, Ohio, February 29, 1844, he came with his family to Austin 30 years ago. Being a veteran of the Civil War, his 20th anniversary was celebrated at the G. A. R. Hall in that city where an appropriate homage was paid him. Mr. Tyrer is an uncle of Mrs. Chas. Sherman, Mrs. W. R. Thomas, Eli Tyrer and Mrs. IDA B DAVEY of this city.” Dodgeville Chronicle, June 4, 1925-“VETERAN DRIVES MILES TO ATTEND MEMORIAL DAY- To Robert Tyrer, aged veteran of the Civil War goes the distinction of making the greatest effort to be with his old comrades in this city on the day of days, memorial Day. Mr. Tyrer, a former resident, has of late years, resided at Austin, Minn. With the coming of May 30th the lure of old home ties was too strong to resist. Accordingly, on Tuesday of last week, greatly to the surprise of relatives and comrades, Mr. Tyrer made his appearance in this city, having motored through. The trip of over 200 odd miles was made without mishap although Mr. Tyrer is blind in one eye, has a crippled hand and was alone. Joseph Dorhnald (Sp) Sr., of Madison also came down for the day.” Dodgeville Chronicle, same issue: Robert Tyrer returned to Austin, Minn. Monday accompanied by Chas. L. Sherman and Amos Davey, who will visit in that city a few days.” Dodgeville Chronicle, June 10, 1926-“CIVIL WAR VETERAN DOES OWN CHAUFFERING-Mr. and Mrs. Robert Tyrer returned Monday to their home in Austin, Minn. After visiting ten days with relatives in this city. Mr. Tyrer came at this time to be present at the Memorial Day exercises and like last year, drove his own auto the entire 240 miles, although he is now 83 years of age. A family reunion was held Sunday and Monday of last week at the Mrs. Chas. Sherman home, and besides near relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Tyrer and Mrs. Geo.
