All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/wi/wifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Nancy Poquette npoq@hotmail.com January 1, 2007, 11:46 pm Minerl Point Tribune Obituary of Thomas Ward Mitchell: “ANOTHER VETERAN MUSTERED OUT.” “THOMAS WARD MITCHELL died at his home two miles north of this city in the neighborhood of his birth, on Thursday, Feb. 27th.” “Deceased was the third son on WILLIAM and MARY MITCHELL, born on their farm near this city, July 10, 1843, and resided there until the fall of 1861, when he enlisted as a soldier in Co. K, 14th Wisconsin Infantry. Served until the fall of 1862, when he was discharged for disability. During this service he participated in the Battle of Shiloh, and other duties with his regiment.” “In 1864 he married Miss FANNIE YOUGHTON [correct spelling was YOULTON], who died in February 1883, leaving him with five children. The year of his marriage he went to Colorado, thence to Montana and California, returning to Mineral Point in 1877.” “Dec. 12, 1886 [it was 1884], he married Miss Louisa Poquette, who died in 1896 after bearing him four children. All his children except one daughter survive him and all but two of the survivors were present at the funeral. He was ill but six days, his death resulting from pneumonia.” “Six years ago he united with the M.E. church at Barreltown and continued a faithful member until death.” “For several years he was one of the most loyal members of George H. Legate Post, G.A.R., and held the position of color sergeant at the time of his death. He was buried on Sunday with Grand Army honors, and religious services at the M. E. church in this city conducted by Rev. Tomlinson, pastor. “A good citizen, husband, father and neighbor.
