Hiram Tyrer of Jenny Lind Joins the Great Majority. Jenny Lind, April 17, 1906. Again death has visited our community and taken from our midst an old settler and friend, Hiram Tyrer, who died at his home in Jenny Lind on April 14, 1906. He was born in the state of New York on April 30, 1824, and in his youth, left his father’s home and went to Dodgeville, Wisconsin to the lead mines of that place. Becoming tired of staying there he concluded to emigrate to the golden state of California to seek his fortune. In the spring of 1850 he crossed the plains, landing in Placerville. He followed mining as an occupation, going from Placerville to Murphys, where he remained for about 6 years.” “Again he decided to change and come to the neighborhood of Jenny Lind, where for a number of years, he was engaged in the sheep business in partnership with the late R. R. Jenkins. Finally, by mutual consent, the partnership was dissolved and he settled down on the large tract of land of which he had become the owner. He was engaged in stock raising, and here he lived until the time of his death.” “Hiram, as he was called by old and young, was highly respected by all. He had been slowly failing for a long time, but was only confined to his bed four days. As the sun was near its setting on the afternoon of last Saturday, this good old man passed from earth. He never murmured though weary of pain and the infirmities of age, but seemed to appreciate death as a welcome relief, and expressed his desire to die and be at rest.” “He was attended by his niece, Mrs. H. F. Sanborn and family, who had tenderly cared for him in sickness and health, and although willing and loving hands did all that was possible it seemed of no avail, as he was fast nearing the century mark.” “The funeral took place from the family residence, services being conducted by Rev. Sinclair, assisted by Rev. Shank, on the 16th inst. And the beautiful, flower-laden casket containing the remains was borne to its final resting-place in the cemetery at Jenny Lind. The funeral was largely attended, many coming from Stockton and Lockeford to pay their last farewell to their departed friend. He was aged 82 years, 11 months and 14 days. A FRIEND.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wi/iowa/obits/t/tyrer291gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wifiles/ File size: 3.0 Kb
