She had been in poor health for the last two years following a fall from the icy steps of her home, in which she broke her wrist.” “Funeral services will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church at 2 pm, Wednesday with Valentine Junker officiating and interment at Mount Hope Cemetery.” “Mrs. Faragher was born in Indiana, August 31, 1842. When she was three years old her mother died and she was taken by her father to Dodgeville, WI, where she lived until after her marriage to James Faragher in October 1862.” “In 1863, Mrs. Faragher with her husband and one son crossed the plains in a covered wagon to Boise City, Idaho, and later to Idaho City. After five years, they returned to Dodgeville, and in 1877 moved to Adrian, MN where they farmed until 1897 when they retired, moving to Ellsworth, MN a town established four miles from their farm in 1884.” “On July 4, 1900, they came to Watertown and bought property near the Mellette School, known as Faragher’s subdivision. Mrs. Faragher had made her home here ever since, with the exception of four years spent in Hot Springs, SD due to the illness of one of her sons. Mrs. Faragher was a member of the Watertown WRC [Women’s Relief Corps] and transferred her membership to Hot Springs during her residence there. Since coming to Watertown she had been affiliated with the Trinity Episcopal Church.” “Mrs. Faragher was an active writer of both poetry and prose. She was especially interested in horticulture and wrote a great deal on the subject. Up to the time of her death, she regularly contributed to a column of poetry to the Nobles County Review of Adrian, MN. She was a member of the League of American Pen Women and was poet laureate of the local auxiliary of that body. She began a poem a month ago at the age of 92.” “She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Douglas Brown, 17 Third Ave, NW, Watertown; four sons, Charles and George Faragher of Watertown, with the former of whom she made her home until her last illness, John Faragher of Rural Route 6, Watertown, and James Faragher of Adrian, MN, 11 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren.” “She was preceded in death by her husband who died May 4, 1921, three daughters, Agnes, Margaret, and Annie(?), two brothers, ELISHA and Robert Tyrer, three great grandchildren and one grandchild.” “The body will lie in state at the Shawn Messer Chapel until 10 a.m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church for the funeral service.” The Dodgeville Chronicle of December 20, 1934, copied most of this account, but preceded it with: Mrs. Charles Sherman received word of the death at Watertown, SD on Sunday of her aunt, Mrs. Isabell Farragher, who had attained the ripe age of 92,” etc. In the Nobles County Review obituary, were these additional lines, “Her many near and dear friends here will regret to learn of the passing of this good woman. A woman of natural attainments and endowed with intelligence of a high order, Mrs. Faragher lived a life of great usefulness throughout her long career. Her services as a nurse were freely extended especially during the pioneer days.” File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wi/iowa/obits/t/tyrerfar294gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wifiles/ File size: 4.1 Kb
