RIDGEWAY - Boyd V. Alfred, age 83, of Ridgeway, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 17, 1922, in Blanchardville, a son of Clarence and Jennie (Johnson) Alfred. He grew up and attended school in the Blanchardville area and graduated from Blanchardville High School in 1939. On June 2, 1942, he married Mary E. Darling at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hollandale. Mary preceded him in death on Dec. 8, 2004. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the 711th Bomb Squad as a bombsight mechanic from 1942 to 1945, in England. After returning from the war, he and Mary farmed together in the Ridgeway area for many years, until retiring in 1990. Boyd was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church, Ridgeway, and the Hollandale American Legion Post No. 510. Farming was Boyd's life. He loved spending time with family, playing cards and working on jigsaw puzzles. Boyd is survived by his four children, Dick (Judy) Alfred and Bob (Jeanne) Alfred, both of Ridgeway, Connie (Dennis) Heiliger of Cross Plains, and Karen (fiance, Bruce Wolfenberger) Alfred of Pewaukee; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Todd, Jason, Wade, Shannon, Bradley, Dustin and Haley; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a brother, Clayton; and two sisters, Marjorie Cleary and Ethel Jackson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2005, at ST. BRIDGET'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Ridgeway. Father Tait Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Bridget's Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded by the Hollandale and Ridgeway American Legions. Friends may call from 3 p.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church. The family wishes to thank the staff of Bloomfield Manor and Upland Hills Hospice. Gorgen-McGinley & Ayers Funeral Home Dodgeville (608) 935-5222 Alfred, Mary Elisabeth RIDGEWAY -Mary Elisabeth Alfred, age 80, of Ridgeway, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on June 7, 1924, to Theo and Margaret (McCabe) Darling. She grew up and attended school in the Hollandale area. On June 2, 1942, she married Boyd V. Alfred at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hollandale. They farmed together in the Ridgeway area for many years, until retiring in 1990. Mary was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She loved spending time with her family, visiting with friends, playing cards and baking and cooking. Mary is survived by her husband, Boyd Alfred; her children, Dick (Judy) Alfred and Bob (Jeanne) Alfred, both from Ridgeway, Connie (Dennis) Heiliger of Cross Plains, and Karen Alfred of North Prairie; eight grandchildren, Michelle, Todd, Jason, Wade, Shannon, Bradley, Dustin and Haley; soon to be eight great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Kathy Walsh, Patty U'Ren, and Jessie Bishop. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at noon on Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, at ST. BRIDGET'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, in Ridgeway with Father Donald Lange officiating. Burial will be held in St. Bridget's Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at the GORGEN-MCGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville, where a parish rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Friends may also call from 11 a.m. until the time of Mass on Friday at the church.
