M Sgt US Army WWII 02 Apr 1917-29Sep2005 Brooks, Henry A. > MIDDLETON - Henry A. Brooks, age 88, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at his home with his loving wife at his side. He was born on April 2, 1917, in East Killingly, Conn., the son of Harold and Ina (Oatley) Brooks. Henry was united in marriage to Dorothy Hopkins on May 29, 1941. She preceded him in death. Henry was a US Army veteran having served from 1944 to 1946. He moved from Connecticut to Middleton in 1962, and was a self-employed optician for over 25 years. He was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge No. 15 of Danielson, Conn. On June 26, 1978, Henry was united in marriage to Winnifred (Azzalino) Short. During Henrys retirement he enjoyed traveling with his family and spending time outdoors at the family cottage. Henry truly enjoyed cooking with his family. He also had a witty sense of humor that will forever be missed. Henry's most treasured days were spent with his wife, Wynne, of 26 years, his stepson, Steve (Linda), and his two loved granddaughters, Tracy and Tera. In addition to his wife, Winnifred; Henry is survived by his brother, Allen Brooks of East Killingly, Conn.; and his sister, Dorothy Elfgrin of Lexington, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; and two sisters, Alice Griffin and Florence Osterhoudt. Memorial services will be held at the GUNDERSON WEST FUNERAL HOME, 7435 University Ave., Middleton, at 12 noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare, Inc. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Brandabur, his nurse Kay, the staff at HospiceCare, and the staff at the Veteran's Hospital.
