DODGEVILLE RIDGEWAY - Bernard F. Lease, age 80, of Dodgeville, formerly of Ridgeway, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at his home, following a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Bernard was born on Jan. 3, 1924, in the town of Vermont, the son of Edward C. and Mary (Kiely) Lease. He spent most of his life in the Ridgeway area and graduated from Ridgeway High School. He joined the U.S. Navy on Dec. 7, 1942, and served in the South Pacific during World War II aboard LSTs. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 21, 1946. On Feb. 12, 1949, he married Doris Foss. Together they farmed in the Ridgeway area where they raised 11 children. He was a member of St. Bridget's Catholic Church and the Ridgeway American Legion Post No. 257. Bernard is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Doris of Dodgeville; four sons, Bill of Dodgeville, Vince (Rita) of Fennimore, Dean (Lori) of Dodgeville, and Tim (Sue) of Verona; seven daughters, Barb of Scottsdale, Ariz., Mary of Las Vegas, Nev., Susan (Randy) Whalen of Woodinville, Wash., Deb (Kurt) Grimm of Cottage Grove, Cindy (Art) Weber of McFarland, Sandy (Dave Hugg) of Amsterdam, Holland, and Karen (Matt Leonard) of Montfort; 22 grandchildren; three brothers, Gary (Diane) of Ridgeway, Raymond (Margie) of Barneveld, and Donald (Avis) of Stoughton; three sisters, Averill (Ray) Harris of Blanchardville, Virginia of Ridgeway, and Betty (Tom) Sawle of Caledonia, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward Jr. and Davis; and two sisters, Delores Bunker and Lorraine Haga. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at ST. BRIDGET'S CATHOLIC CHURCH in Ridgeway. Father Donald Lange will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Bridget's Cemetery, with military graveside rites accorded by the Ridgeway American Legion Post No. 257. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at the GORGEN-MCGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME, 400 E. Grace St., Dodgeville, where a parish rosary service will be held at 8 p.m. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass on Saturday at the church.
