DIES AT 96 DANIEL MAHONEY, PROBABLY IOWA COUNTY"S OLDEST CITIZEN, TAKEN BY GRIM REAPER Daniel Mahoney, probably the ildest man in Iowa county, died Friday evening, April 8, at his home in Ridgeway. Mr. Mahoney was born in County Kerry, ireland, in October, 1824, and had reached the age of 96 years and 6 months at the time of his death. he came to this country at the age of 22 and worked for some time in Ohio. From there he moved to Kentucky, where he was united in Marriage to Mary Callaghan in the year 1852, and early in 185 they moved to a farm four miles north of Ridgeway. To this union four children were born, viz: Josie, Thos., James and Mary. His wife, Father James Mahoney of Parnell, Ia., and Miss Mary of this village preceded him in death some years ago. Mr. Mahoney voted at the 1856 election, which was hotly contested between Freemont and Buchanan. He was a man of sterling qualities, being a perfect type of honesty, industry and economy. He enjoyed perfect health throughout his entire life, frequently boasting that he was never compelled to employ a doctor until about six months ago, when old age and its attendant infirmities made inroads on his rugged frame and he realized a sense of his condition and that his lide's voyage was nearing an end-that he was rapidly approaching the breakers of the farther shore. The name Daniel Mahoney will never be forgotten in this community, for better than a monument of granite or statue of fame is the memory of this good man, alway genial and kind, his life influence among his immidiate associates, and his mark of manhood has been left indelibly upon the world.
