RIDGEWAY - Robert Olson, age 84, of Ridgeway, died on Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Upland Hills Nursing and Rehab Center in Dodgeville. He was born on Nov. 19, 1918, in Manitou, N.D., a son of the late Anton and Annie (Hanson) Olson. He was inducted into the United States Army on June 5, 1941, during World War II and served in Papua, New Guinea and the South Philippines. He received his honorable discharge on Oct. 5, 1945, at Fort McCoy. He married Mary Margaret "Sis" McCloud on Oct. 4, 1948, in Ridgeway. Robert was manager of the Kroger Stores in Delavan, Mineral Point, Dodgeville, and Mt. Horeb. He also owned his own grocery store in Ridgeway. He was a licensed plumber for Collins & Hying Plumbing and Heating in Dodgeville. Bob was a member of the Ridgeway American Legion Post No. 257. He enjoyed spending time fishing on the Mississippi River in Lynxville. Robert is survived by his sisters, Jennie Olson and Anne Eisele, both of Madison; his brother-in-law, Tom Collins, of Ridgeway; his sisters-in-law, Marian Collins, of Dodgeville and Kathleen Dale, of California; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, "Sis", on March 15, 2000; five brothers, Axel, Oscar, Fred, Bill and John; and two sisters, Mary Thompson and Alma Storm. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 5, 2003, at the GORGEN-MCGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME in Dodgeville, with Father Donald Lange officiating. Burial will be held in St. Bridget's Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites accorded by the Ridgeway American Legion Post No. 257. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the Gorgen-McGinley & Ayers Funeral Home in Dodgeville.
