MAZOMANIE - Norbert L. Strang departed this world to be with his higher power on Thursday, July 24, 2003, following a short hospitalization. He was born on Aug. 3, 1926, to Millard and Stella (Dochnahl) Strang. He lived most of his youth in the Hollendale area until moving to Madison, and eventually settling in Mazomanie. He married Catherine (Kay) Cornish on Nov. 1, 1958. Norbert worked construction for many years and then was employed at Research Products until his retirement in 1989. After retirement, he mowed lawns in the area and continued for many years until he was physically unable. He was happiest when he could be outside and even better if he could be on his lawnmower. He always felt that his greatest accomplishment was his sobriety, which he maintained for 25 years following the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a role model to others in the program and proof that "it does work." He regularly attended the Tuesday night meeting in Cross Plains, and the Thursday night meeting in Mazomanie, but could often be found at many other meetings throughout south- central Wisconsin. Much of his free time was spent with his "camping family," many who were also AA members. His time with these special friends was important to him and he camped every weekend from April to October. He particularly enjoyed going to garage sales, eating out with his camper friends and spending time around the campfire in good conversation. His dog, "Tiddly Winks," and his cat, "Susie," were an important part of his life and provided much entertainment and companionship. In addition to his AA family, Norbert is survived by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Christine Cornish- Larkins of Madison, and her daughters, Mheagan Larkins and Sarah Sluder, Pamela (Thomas) Wick of Mazomanie,, and daughters, Kimberlie Wick (David Linz) and Stephanie (Brian) Haack; and their son, Scott, Fayth (James) Harrison of Madison, and children, Arian (Tim) Baldry and Matthew Harrison, Neal (Theresa) Strang of Lisbon, Maine, and children, Robbie, Alex and Emily. He is further survived by two daughters, Sheila (Duane) Egner of McFarland, and Cheryl Grassman of Madison; grandchildren, Jesse Egner, Kathy Jolicoeur and Ryan Grassman; and great-grandchildren, Tristin, McKenzie and Dawson Jolicoeur, He was preceded in death by his wife, Kay, in 1995; a son, Richard, in 1984; and son-in-law, Randy Sluder, in 2002. A funeral service will be held at GNEWIKOW-HOOVERSON FUNERAL HOME, Mazomanie, at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2003, with Scott Jameson officiating. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Ridgeway. Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2003, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff on 5SW and MICU at St. Marys Hospital and Drs. John Wilson, Robert Wenger, Kay Barrett and Michael Frontiera for their expertise, care and compassion for Norbert and family during his hospitalization. God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And wisdom to know the difference., , STRANG, Catherine P. 29 Mar 1925-28 May 1995 Married 01 Nov 1958 File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/wi/iowa/photos/tombstones/stbridgets/strang4228gph.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/wifiles/ File size: 4.1 Kb
