"Bud" RIDGEWAY/MADISON - Winton A. "Bud" Swenson, age 78, passed away on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at Meriter Health Center after an extended illness. He was born on July 23, 1925, in Brigham township in Iowa County, the eldest son of Ted and Ida (Olson) Swenson. He was married on Nov. 24, 1948, to Marion Stapleton at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Ridgeway. He began his farming career as soon as he could contribute on the family farm in Brigham township. Bud, Marion and family began farming in Westport township in 1955, on the Reynolds farm, which is now Governor Nelson State Park. On March 1, 1962, the family moved to a farm in Brigham township where he farmed until 1980. They moved to Ridgeway in 1980, and he worked as a maintenance supervisor at the Barneveld school system where he retired in 1993. In retirement, he spent time helping on the farm of his son, John, playing cards (especially pinochle) and dominoes with his friends and family. In 2000, they moved to their home in Madison. Besides being survived by his wife, Marion of 55 years, he is also survived by his children, John (Judy) of Barneveld, Doug (Carla) of Windsor, Kathy (Karim) Hakim of Madison, and Karla (Marty) Zumwalt of Madison; grandchildren, Jessi, Johnny and Jared Swenson, Kyle and Caleb Swenson, Brad and Lisa Otto, Elizabeth, Wasim, Sylvia and Norma Hakim, Zoe Zumwalt, Jackie, Chad, and Nathaniel Boyes; and great-granddaughter, Elora Daane. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Helen Knight of Arena, Ann Iverson of Poynette, John (Rosie) Swenson of Pardeeville, James (Jane) Swenson of Madison, Sally Iverson of Monona, and Tom (Vonnie) Swenson of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Peggy (Marvin) Rickey of Mazomanie; brother-in-law, Danny Stapleton of Nevada; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Ida; a sister, Irene Crary; and a brother, Richard Swenson; and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Burdette, Harold, Charlie, Elaine and Mike, Leo, Tom and Lorraine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at ST. BRIDGET'S CATHOLIC CHURCH, Ridgeway, with Father Donald Lange officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at the ELLESTAD FUNERAL HOME, 500 N.
