Wubbenhorst, age 68, of Barneveld, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at Upland Hills Health, in Dodgeville. He was born on May 19, 1937, in Boscobel, son of the late John and Helen (Slade) Wubbenhorst. After graduating from Boscobel High School, John entered the U.S. Air Force and served for four years. On Dec. 24, 1961, he married Elaine Gates in Boscobel. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1983. On Oct. 5, 1979, he married Lou Ann Murphy. John worked for the Boscobel Police Department and served as chief deputy for the Grant County Sheriff's Department. He worked at Wick Building of Mazomanie for many years. He was an accomplished woodworker and loved sharing his gift with others. Some of his greatest joys were playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Barneveld. John was a proud veteran and flew the flag on every holiday. He was also a 29 year AA member and had hundreds of AA friends. He started the first AA group in Barneveld and just celebrated their first anniversary. He was a role model to the other members of the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. John is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Wubbenhorst; a son, Tim (Kathy) Wubbenhorst of Monona; a daughter, Jill (Jim) Campbell of Puyallup, Wash.; stepsons, Dan (Deb) Rikli of Sun Prairie and Tony (Kristen) Rikli of Ridgeway; a stepdaughter, Robin (Joe) Hauser of Mount Horeb; grandchildren, Michael, Jeremy, Aaron, Morgan and Colton; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Elaina; sisters, Sherry (Marlin) Phillips of Sherwood and Sandy (Jerry) Monson of Rockford; many nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen; his first wife, Elaine; brothers, Robert, in 1980 and Jim, in 2001; and a sister, Joyce Logan, in 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, 2005, at the BARNEVELD CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST with the Rev. Dennis M. O'Brien officiating. Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Barneveld American Legion. Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, 2005, at the GORGEN-McGINLEY & AYERS FUNERAL HOME, in Dodgeville and from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Wisconsin Heart at Meriter Hospital or in John's name for a memorial fund to be determined at a later date. The family would like to thank the Barneveld EMS, Upland Hills Health, Wisconsin Heart, Dr. Gilliam and Dr. DeVries. A special thanks to Dr. Jarzemsky for his great care and encouragement during John's 20 years with heart disease. Dr. J. said, "Live your life to the fullest with no regrets" and John did.
