Son of John T. and Johanna (SHELTON) BURRIS. J. SMITH BURRIS J. Smith Burris, 70, rural Avoca, died Wednesday, June 29 in a Madison, hospital. Born in Clyde township where he farmed most of his life, he was married to the former Elizabeth J. McCluskey in 1920. He was a member of St. Malachi's Catholic Church, its Holy Name Society, the Lone Rock American Legion for 47 years, and the town of Clyde school board of which he was clerk for 33 years until 1961. He was a World War I veteren. Surviving are his wife; two sons, John T., Newark, Del.; and James, Avoca, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Roach-Mindermann funeral home, Dodgeville, and 10 a.m. at St. Malahi's, Fr. Joseph Bragg officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery where there were military graveside rites.
