Iowa Co, WI Marriages
State of Wisconsin, Iowa County
	“To any person in said county legally authorized to solemnize marriage, 
greeting: You are hereby licensed and permitted to celebrate and certify the 
rites of marriage between Mr. GEORGE BUNTING and Mrs. Mary Simpson, and for so 
doing, this will be your sufficient warrant. In testimony whereof, I have 
hereunto set my hand and seal this 7th day of September 1848. Samuel Thomas 
Justice of the Peace, Iowa Co.

State of Wisconsin, Iowa County
	“This may certify that the above GEORGE BUNTING and Mary Simpson was 
married by me according to law on the 7th day of September 1848. Samuel Thomas, 
Justice of the Peace, Iowa Co. Wis. Recorded this 4th day of December, 1849. 
James Hutchison, Clerk Circuit Court, Iowa Co, Wis.”	

Additional Comments:
The Sept. 8, 1848 Mineral Point Tribune took note of the marriage: “On the 7th 
inst., by Sam Thomas, Mrs. Mary Simpson to Mr. GEORGE BUNTING, all of this 
place.”
