In 1848 he moved to Medina County, Ohio, and in 1857 came to Jackson County, Wisconsin, locating in the town of Melrose, where he still resides, at the age of sixty-five years. Aon first coming to this State he invested his money in a saw-mill, and later bought a little property, to which he added until he now owns 600 acres, in company with his son, Elsworth A. They carry on general farming and stock-raising, but give especial attention to the raising of good stock. Their residence, which is built with all the modern improvements, is in section 20. Mr. Gaylord was married June 26, 1849, to Edith Ward, who was born in Medina County, Ohio, June we, 1828, the daughter of Rev. Jacob and Lucinda (Robinson) Ward. The father was a native of Massachusetts, but after their marriage they went to Medina County, Ohio, where they resided until 1859,then removed to Melrose, Jackson County, where they remained till 1869. Both died in Melrose in 1869. Mr. and Mrs. Gaylord have had three children: Martha E., Martha J. and Elsworth A. The latter is a popular young man, has taken an active part in the Prohibition party, and is also a member of the Town Board. He is now engaged in running the egg business in addition to his other farm duties. Additional Comments: Edith A. Ward Gaylord left Minnesota after Eleazar's death and went to Morgan Hill, Santa Clara County, California, where she can be found in the 1900 Census living with her nephew, Wilbur H. Ward, and her brother, James P. Ward. She died there on May 14, 1918 and was buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill. There is a question as to the two daughters named Martha. Census records for 1860, 1870 and 1880 all show a Martha, born in about 1853. In 1860 she is listed as Martha E. There is no initial in 1870 or 1880. So far, she is not found in the 1900 census. By 1910, Martha G. Douglas, daughter of Edith A. Gaylord, is living with her in Morgan Hill and she is a widow. Again, in 1930, Martha is missing from the census. She died August 8, 1929 and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Morgan Hill. At least there is a marker there for her. The question of whether there were two Marthas has not been answered. Elsworth A. Gaylord married Maude B. Douglas, the adopted daughter of Mark & Justina C. Merrill Douglas. They married in Jackson County, Wisconsin on December 23, 1890. They had one son, Lynn Gaylord, born October 1891. Maude died before 1900 when Elsworth and Lynn can be found in the 1900 census for San Francisco, San Francisco County, California. Elsworth committed suicide in Morgan Hill in 1903 and is buried in the Mount Hope Cemetery. Lynn Gaylord served in the military during World War 1 and wrote home about it. Some of his letters were published in the newspaper. Lynn was killed in a work related accident, being electrocuted, on March 12, 1921. He is also buried in the same plot with Edith A. Gaylord, Martha G. Douglas, and Ellsworth A. Gaylord. They all share one large marker.
