A resident of this city for the past three years he had previously lived at Hixton. He enjoyed a wide acquaintance. Funeral services were held Friday at 3 PM at the Jackson Co-op Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Raymond P. Huss. The song service was given by Mrs. M.H. Moen, who sang "Den Store Hvide Flok" and Hark - Hark My Soul. Flowers were carried by three granddaughters, Audrey Larson, Mrs. Wentworth Berg, and Sonja Lovelien, and one niece, Mrs. Paul Lovelien. Pallbearers were four grandsons, Wallace Larson, David Larson, Wentworth Berg, Raymond Bock, and two nephews, Cahl (Carl?) Haralsrud, and Ernest Fredrickson. Services were attended by many friends. Interment was made in Riverside. Martin Lovelien was born in Sondre Land, Norway, Feb. 2, 1870. He came to America in 1904 and settled first in Northfield, where his sister lived, accompanied by his wife, Johanna Nesbakken whom he married March 9, 1890, in Hoff, Sondre Land, Norway. They lived in Hixton for many years, where he farmed and also had a shoe repair and harness shop. Three years ago they moved to this city, occupying a home next to their daughter, Mrs. William Hunter (error Winter), of German Hill. He continued his work until his health failed. He is mourned by his wife, five daughters and two sons: Mary, Mrs. Morgan Hagen, Ottosen, Iowa; Helga, Mrs. Oscar Larson, Pigeon Falls; Sigurd Lovlien, Des Moines, Iowa; Mina, Mrs. Clarence Blomquist, Minneapolis; Martha, Mrs. William Winter, Black River Falls; Hjalmer Lovelien, Eau Claire; and Josephine, Mrs. Alvin C. Hagen, Black River Falls. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Mary Haralsrud, Northfield. Mr. Lovelien had been baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Norway and continued in that faith throughout his life, a faithful member of the Lutheran church. He was a devoted husband and father, and held in fondest esteem by a wide circle of friends. Sympathy goes to his bereaved wife and children from all who know them. A daughter, Mrs. Morgan Hagen, of Ottosen, Iowa, was not there for the funeral but had spent a week with her parents during his illness. Among those from away attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larson, Audrey, Wallace and David, of Pigeon Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Sigurd Lovelien, Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs Clarence Blomquist, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs. Hjalmer Lovelien, Sonja and Peter; Mr. and Mrs. M. Michels, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Murphy, Minneapolis; Mr. and Mrs Wentworth Berg, Beaver Dam; Mrs. Melvin Muender, Viroqua; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Haralsrud, Oscar Haralsrud, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fredrickson, Northfield; Mrs. Paul Lovelien, Whitehall; Oluf Lovelien, of Pigeon Falls; Mrs. Wyatt Adkins, Madison; Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson, Mr. and Mrs.Martin Ryerson, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Erickson,Hixton. Additional Comments: Martin lived his last three years with his wife, Johanna, in a small house behind his daughter Martha's home on Chestnut Street in Black River Falls, Wisconsin. His grandaughter, Oma Bock (Helga's daughter) lived next door at 333 Chestnut Street with her husband, Raymond, and and their children, Gary, Ruth Ann, and Linda. One of his other daughters, Josephine Hagen, lived nearby and was a frequent visitor.
