Obituary: Jackson County, Wisconsin: Elisha STOCKWELL, Sr. ************************************************************************ Submitted by Joan Benner, May 2005 © All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ From the Wisconsin Leader [Merrillan, Jackson Co., WI], Friday January 18, 1889, apparently copied from the (Black River Falls) Banner Elisha STOCKWELL, Sr., died at the home of his son, E. STOCKWELL, in the western part of the town of Albion, from a cancer in the mouth, at the age of probably about seventy years, last Saturday night. He was one of the early settlers in this part of the country and was doubtless well known to all who have resided here many years. He formerly resided in the town of Alma, and was prominent in social circles. He came to the city on the 6th of November last and cast his vote for Harrison and Morton. He then bid goodbye to such of his old friends as he chanced to meet, knowing that he could not survive long with a cancer rapidly gnawing his lower jaw and tongue away. He had not been able to swallow food, except in liquid form, for a month or more before he died.
