BUTT, engineer in the mill of A. A. Freeman & Co., is a native of Essex, Eng., born in April, 1829; son of Edward Butt; learned his trade at Kent, Gravesend, Eng., twenty-two miles from London, and spent twenty-seven years on salt water, as an engineer, before coming to America, which he did in February, 1875, and has resided in La Crosse since that time; has been in his present position since the spring of 1876. He was married in October, 1853, at Gravesend, Eng., to Miss Harriet, daughter of Samuel Choat, Esq., of that place. They have two children - Edith H. E., now the wife of John Everard, of La Crosse, and Edward William, 22 years of age, and manager of the book and stationery house, at 255 Nicolet avenue, Minneapolis.
