Among the buildings he put up in La Crosse are Gund's Brewery, City Engine House, Heasley's Block, Scharf & Ring's Block, Funk's Foundry, Heillman's Malt House, Michel's Brewery and Rau's Block. He learned the blacksmith's trade in Germany, and worked at it till he came to America. He is Secretary of the Wisconsin Odd Fellows Insurance Co.
