He was born in Germany, near Hamburg, in 1844; came to America when 16 years old and located in La Crosse. He enlisted there in 1862, in the 14th Wis. V. I., Company D, as a private, and was appointed Corporal Dec. 1, 1864, in which position he served till the close of the war (nearly three years). He was married in 1868, to Annie Dwarchuk, and has one child - Eddie; has lost two girls - Lillie and Nellie. Additional Comments: From History of La Crosse County, Wisconsin, 1881, p. 755.
