GRAY, farmer and stock-raiser, Section 28; P. O. West Salem; son of Alexander Gray, who was born in Pennsylvania; married to Martha Reed. Mr. Gray, Sr., was a carpenter by trade, which business he followed for many years; he removed with his family from Allegheny City, Penn., June 1865, and settled on the farm now occupied by his heirs; he died in 1875; his wife died in 1855. Mr. Gray left a widow, formerly Miss Isabel Reed, and two children - William A., born in Allegheny City, in 1849; he married Jennie McEldowny, daughter of Samuel McEldowny; has one daughter - Florence M.; the second child is Lillie J., now Mrs. William McKiney, resides in Kansas. William A. has charge of the homestead farm, which contains about 250 acres, with fine improvements; he is engaged principally in dairying and stock-raising, makes a specialty of raising Holstein cattle; he has several fine specimens of this valuable breed. His original stock consists of a splendid pair of this excellent breed of cattle, which he and Mr. William Van Waters purchased, at a cost of $800.
