A. HARRINGTON, proprietor of the Harrington House, in North La Crosse, is a native of Syracuse, N. Y., born in 1835; son of B. S. Harrington, who still lives in Onondaga Co., N. Y., eight miles from the city of Syracuse. Mr. Harrington came to Wisconsin in the spring of 1854, resided in Portage City till the fall of 1858, then came to La Crosse Co., and was engaged in hotel and dry goods business till 1861. In September of that year he enlisted in the regimental band of the 10th W. V. I., and was mustered out of service the next April. He then went to Baraboo, Sauk Co., Wis., and was engaged in the mercantile business till 1868, and from that time till 1870, was on the road, selling goods. He then spent two years in California, returning to Bangor, Wis., and came from there to La Crosse in February, 1877, where he has since been in the hotel business; was Town Clerk in Bangor two years. He was married, in Columbus Co., Wis., in the fall of 1855, to Miss Charlotte J. Wells, a native of Oxford, Chenango Co., N. Y. Has three children - Lina, Alice and Frankie.
