He went to France in 1845, where he worked in a flouring-mill, and emigrated to America in 1849, and located in Pennsylvania, about twenty miles from Philadelphia, in March of that year, where he worked on a farm. He removed to Kenosha, Wis., in 1850, where he also worked on a farm. During that same year, he located in Prairie du Chien, where he peddled fanning-mills. August 5, 1851, he removed to La Crosse, and started a store, which he conducted up to 1863, when he kept a hotel until 1878, when he went into the gardening business. He now owns a garden of 22-1/2 acres on Twelfth street, and supplies the city with vegetables and fruit. Additional Comments: From History of La Crosse County, Wisconsin, 1881, p. 761.
