S. Davidson; has been a resident of La Crosse since 1867. He is a native of Jefferson Co., Ohio, born in 1834. His father, William Holmes, went from Ohio to Pittsburgh, Penn., in 1843, and removed from there to Galena, Ill., in 1846, where he resided till his death in 1862, in the 53d year of his age. Lafayette Holmes lived in Galena, Ill., from 1846 to 1860; from that time till he came to La Crosse in 1867, he lived most of the time in St. Paul, Minn.; has been connected with the steamboat interests ever since the organization of the old "Minnesota Packet Co." in 1853; has been in his present position since he came to La Crosse; has three children - William M., Jessie L. and Walter.
