MATHEUS HOSLY, proprietor of the European Billiard Hall, is a native of 
Glarus, Switzerland, born July 7, 1833; came to America in 1852 and lived in 
Highland, Ill., four months, Galena, Ill., four years, and Dunleith, Ill., one 
year, coming to La Crosse in the summer of 1858. He has been in his present 
business ever since he came to La Crosse, and all of the time in this city, 
except one year (1861) in St. Louis and Hannibal, Mo., and about five months 
he spent in Europe in 1864. He is one of the present Aldermen of the Second 
Ward of La Crosse.
