HUGHES, son of David D. Hughes, a carpenter and wagon-maker, in the village of Rockland. He was born in South Wales, about 1820; came to the United States, about 1837, and settled at Utica, N. Y., where he lived about fifteen years. He then removed to Dubuque, Iowa; thence to the village of Bangor, and to Rockland in 1871. He learned his trade, that of a carpenter and wagon-maker in Wales. He has one son - David H., who was born in Utica, in 1843. Was married to Mary Jones, daughter of Evan Jones. They have one child - David M. Mr. David H.
