BERNT JOHNSON, painter, of the firm of Marsh & Johnson, was born in Norway in 
1856, son of John Hyelle, who came to America in 1875, and now lives in Vernon 
Co., Wis. Bernt Johnson learned his trade in Norway, came to Wisconsin with 
his parents, and has been painting in the city of La Crosse since 1876, except 
three months in Chicago. The present partnership was formed July 23, 1880. He 
was married Dec. 15, 1879, in La Crosse, to Laura, daughter of Ole Evenson. 
She was born in Norway and came to America in the fall of 1876. Have one 
child, John, born in October, 1880.
