Have been in business together since April, 1879. H. W. La Bar is a native of Carbon Co., Penn., born in 1836; came to Wisconsin in 1856 with his parents, who settled in Berlin, Green Lake Co. He learned the carpenter's trade in Berlin, and came from there to La Crosse in 1865, where he has worked at the business since; he spent the summer of 1864 in Nashville, Tenn., in Government employ. His wife's maiden name was Rose Helmle, and he has one child - Anna May. His partner, Andrew Johnson, was born in Norway in 1835, son of John Johnson. He learned the carpenter's and cabinet-makers' trade in Norway; came to America in 1861, and has lived in La Crosse County ever since; the first three years on a farm in the town of Bangor, and since that in the city. He was married in Norway in 1861, to Gunner Andersdatter and has no children. His parents died in Norway before he came to America.
