O. Barre Mills; was born in Broome Co., N. Y., in 1853; at the age of 12, he came with his parents to Onalaska, La Crosse Co., where he lived about seven years; the remainder of his life was spent in different parts of La Crosse Co.; in July, 1880, he married Rosabel McIlwrith, daughter of Thomas McIlwrith, who was born in Ayrshire, Scotland; when 19 years of age, he emigrated to the United States, landing at McGregor, Iowa, July 2, 1856, where he stayed until winter, when he went to Memphis, Tenn.; in the following spring, Mr. McIlwrith came north and rafted logs on the Mississippi River during the summer; the remainder of his life, up to the present, with few exceptions, has been spent in La Crosse Co.; in the spring of 1861, he purchased his present farm, consisting of 80 acres located in Secs. 20 and 29; also 40 acres in Sec. 10, town of Greenfield, but he has since sold 20 acres of the latter. Mr. McIlwrith is a Republican in politics. He has served two years as Supervisors of the town of Barre, three years as School Clerk, and is at present serving his fifth year as Justice of the Peace. He was married, in 1861, to Mary Adaline Carl, daughter of Isaac and Tina Carl; their children are Annie, Rosabel, Martha, Jessie, Daisy and Mary.
