Studied dentistry in his native place with Dr. Rice, and in Fitchburg, Mass., with Dr. Palmer. He afterward attended lectures at the dental school, Philadelphia. Practiced in Newport, Vt., from 1860 to 1866, except when in the army, and has practiced in La Crosse since March, 1866. Dr. Palmer made the first move toward the organization of the "Wisconsin State Dental Society," as he drew up a petition and traveled through the State to obtain the signatures necessary for that purpose. He was the first temporary President, and afterward permanent President of the society, which was organized in September, 1870. He has also been a member of the "American Dental Association" for several years, and, in 1880, was elected an honorary member of the "Iowa State Dental Society."
