SALZER, proprietor of the La Crosse Floral Gardens, on South Seventh street, was born in Wurtemberg, Germany, in 1823; son of John G. Salzer, a nurseryman and fruit-raiser; came to America in 1846; lived four years in Galena, Ill., four years in Iowa; then lived six years in Wisconsin - Baraboo, West Bend and Manitowoc; then three years in Peru, Ill., and came from there to La Crosse in 1863; has been in his present business since 1866. He has eight greenhouses and about 9,000 feet under glass. In connection with his garden, he has an apiary of about eighty stands of bees, and produces from 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of honey per annum.
