H. SCHAFERMEYER, proprietor of "Four-Mile House," La Crosse; was born in Prussia in 1823; emigrated to the United States and landed at New Orleans in December, 1851, and at once went to St. Louis, where he was employed in a wholesale drug store for ten years; he then went to Shackopee, Minn., where he lived about eighteen months, then to Red Wing, and stayed six months, after which he came to La Crosse Co., and immediately purchased the hotel he now keeps; he also owns 372 acres of land. In 1854, Mr. S. was married to Ana Seaman; born in Prussia in 1829; they have had eight children, two of whom are living - Theresa and Anna.
