He enlisted in Co. I, 8th W. V. I., in the year 1861, as private; promoted to Corporal; was Color- Bearer of the 8th, and has had the honor of carrying the noble old "Abe," the historical old eagle; was in thirty-two battles; was wounded at Corinth, Miss.; receives a pension. Owns town property. His first wife was a native of Holland, where they were married; she died there. His second wife was Josephine Christn, born in Switzerland; they married in January, 1876.
