C. SWARTHOUT, M. D., was born in the town of Onalaska, La Crosse Co., Wis., in 1855, and has always resided in La Crosse Co., except when away at school. He attended Rush Medical College, of Chicago, two winters, and graduated from Bellevue Hospital Medical College, of New York City, in the spring of 1879. He was married, May 24, 1879, to Miss Sarah, daughter of John H. Miller, of Midway, La Crosse Co., and has been practicing his profession in North La Crosse since that time; has one child - Susie. His father, A. S. Swarthout, was a native of Steuben Co., N. Y., came to Wisconsin at an early day, and, after residing some time at Beaver Dam, settled on a farm in La Crosse Co. in June, 1855. He had a farm of about 600 acres in the town of Onalaska, on which he resided till 1872, then came to North La Crosse and remained till May, 1879, when he removed to Sparta, Wis., where he is still living. While in La Crosse he was a member of the School Board, and was also a member of the City Council from the Fifth Ward two terms.
