In March, 1857, he bought the "Nordstern"; became its editor and publisher, and continued as such ever since; that is, up to the present time, May, 1881. He served the city as Alderman and School Commissioner, and is at present also Receiver of the United States Land Office, to which position he was appointed by President Grant in the year 1875.
