WEEKS, superintendent of the boat yard of P. S. Davidson, at North La Crosse; has been in his present position since 1866. He was born in New York City in 1809; son of John Anthony Weeks, who died while George S. was in infancy. He left New York City in 1828, and engaged in ship-building in Jefferson Co., N. Y., about nine years; was also in the same business in Buffalo, N. Y., and Detroit, Mich., for several years, and went from there to Chicago, where he remained till 1862, then went to Savannah, Iowa, and had charge of the floating stock of the W. U. R. R. at that place till 1866, when he came to La Crosse. While in Chicago, he built the dry dock there, and since built the steamboat "George S. Weeks," of which he was part owner.
