Was there three years, and came from there to La Crosse in 1856. He first worked for C. L. Coleman five years, then started a copper still for making malt whiskey, which he kept up six years. He was then one and a half years in the butcher business on Main street. In 1867, he commenced the brewing business in his present location; was burned out in January, 1874, and soon after erected his present building, which has a capacity of about 3,500 barrels, and cost $30,000.
