La Crosse Co., WI OBIT: John Asselin SUBJECT: Obit SUBMITTER: Douglas Fahnlander EMAIL: Dfahnlande@aol.com DATE: May 24, 1999 SURNAMES: Asselin Obituary: John Asselin, 83, of 1346 Caledonia St., died Monday morning (December 08, 1922) at a local (La Crosse) hospital after a short illness. He was a former engineer on the Burlington Railroad, having retired 13 years ago. Mr. Asselin was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, being one of the first members to join the union when it was organized on the Burlington. In earlier years he had been a clerk for McDonald Bros., a river transportation firm. Mr. Asselin is survived by his wife, Mollie; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Hurley and Mrs. Ellen Scanlon, both of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Roy (Bessie) Greenhalgh of Cresco, Iowa; and a brother, Charles Edward of Staples, Minnesota. Funeral services will be Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the North Side Blaschke Funeral Home, 933 Rose St., and at 8 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, the Rev. J.J. Sheridan officiating. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery. Rosary will be said Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
