Mrs. Emma Lou HOYER, age 94, formerly of West Salem, died in a La Crosse hospital Friday morning. She was born Emma Lou HAMILTON, November 13, 1865, in Mason Grove, Tennessee, the twin daughter of Paton(sic) and Sophia Smith(sic) HAMILTON. [note: actually Peyton and Melinda TOSH HAMILTON] January, 1888, she was married to Henry HOYER, later they moved to Wisconsin and settled on a farm near West Salem. Her husband died in 1912, and a few years later she moved to West Salem. She united with the Presbyterian Church of West Salem, April 17, 1927, and transferred to the Bangor Presbyterian Church when she moved there a number of years ago. The last few years of her life were spent in La Crosse. Seven children blessed their marriage, two of whom died in early infancy, and one son George died in the year of 1944. Her twin brother Edward Lee HAMILTON died in 1956 at the age of 90 years, and a half brother(sic) Frank also preceded her in death and two sisters. Mrs. Hoyer was very active all her life until the last few years when her health began to fail. She suffered a stroke on Wednesday, March 23, and passed away April 1, 1960. She reached the age of 94 years, 4 months and 13 days.
