Johnson ebjohnso@facstaff.wisc.edu 11:44 10/23/1999 ************************************************************************ La Crosse County Record Vol.LIX Onalaska, Wisconsin, May 4, 1944 Num. 30 Herbert Otto, 44, Buried Sunday Herbert Otto, 44 years of age, passed away at a La Crosse hospital Thursday noon, April 27, after a short illness. He had submitted to a major operation the week before and was apparently recovering when his condition suddenly changed. He was born in the city of Onalaska, March 21, 1900, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Otto. In September, 1925, he was married to Miss Annetta Stedgie at Three Lakes, Wisconsin. He was employed at the La Crosse Tool and Die Company up to the time of his illness. His wife and nine children, Edward, Ione, Elwin, Evelyn, Herbert Jr., Norma Rose, Jane Anne, Vada Mae and Frieda, survive him, as does his mother, Mrs. Frieda Otto of Onalaska ; three brothers, William and Ernest of Onalaska and L. C. Otto of Fairview, Ore.; and five sisters, Mrs. Emil Christopherson, Mrs. Johns E. Huecker, Mrs. Frank Podell, Mrs. Earl Johnson and Miss Elsye Otto, all of Onalaska. The body lay in state at the home of his mother on Saturday evening and until the time of the private funeral services there at 1:30 o'clock on Sunday. At 2:00 o'clock services were held at the St. Paul's Lutheran church, with the Rev. L. M. Bleichwehl officiating. Pall bearers were Harry Pralle, August Pralle, Jr., Justin Haugom, Walter Renstrom, James Schilling and Melvin Mickelson. Acting as flower girls were Miss Edna Peterson, Miss Margaret Renstrom and Mrs. Evelyn Lee. Interment was made in the Onalaska cemetery with the Fossum Funeral home in charge.
