This bible is bound in brown leather, stamped in gold on the cover, which
reads, "The Holy Bible and How to Understand It." The title page
reads, "Complete Analysis fo the Holy Bible: or, the whole of the
Old and New Testaments ...on the basis of Matthew Talbot...." It was
published in 1872 by A.J. Johnson, 11 Great Jones Street, New York.

The cover is shabby and is coming loose from the book, but there are no
missing pages. At the back of the book are pages for recording births,
deaths, marriages, and miscellaneous.

From the date, I conclude that this bible originally belonged to my 
gggrandmother,
Permelia E. Howe, known as Ellen. The first entries are in her handwriting.
The bible was passed along to Permelia's eldest daughter, Lorinda Parthenia
Carpenter, and in turn belonged to my grandmother, Goldie Leila Bowhay.
There are entires in the handwriting of Permelia, Lorinda, Goldie, my father
Kenneth, an unidenfied person, and most lately, me.

In Wisconsin, the Howes lived first in Monroe County, where Permelia was
born in 1841, and then in Lafayette County, where Permelia married Leander
J. Carpenter in 1856. In 1866, the couple moved to Nebraska, settling in
Mission Creedk, Pawnee County. Their oldest daughter Lorinda Parthenia
married Peter Bowhay in 1882. They moved to Liberty in Gage County, NE,
where my grandmother, their fourth child, was born and married.

[Notes: There are many other names in the Bible, mostly the descendants
of Peter and Lorinda Lorinda Carpenter Bowhay. These are the people with
Nebraska roots. There were also a number of clippings in the Bible, placed
there by my grandmother, Goldie Leila Bowhay Clark, who kept many scrapbooks
full of family memorabilia.]
