Plautz, Henry Albert -------------------- Transcribed from "The Antigo Daily Journal" Antigo, Langlade County, WI. Thursday, August 18, 1932 - pages 1 & 7. HENRY PLAUTZ FATALLY HURT IN FALL FROM DITCHED TRUCK Killed Instantly When Car Was Forced off Road by Vamp Driver The fifth accidental death in Langlade county within the past three weeks caused by an automobile being driven into the ditch occurred last night about 10 o'clock when Henry Plautz, age 42, was killed instantly as he fell out of a Blatz Brewing Co. truck that was forced in the ditch of highway S, about a mile and a half south of where S connects with high-way 64. Max Schumann, employee of the Blatz Brewing Co. for the past five years, was the driver of the truck at the time of the accident. Schuman, when questioned this morning, could give no reason for Plautz falling out of the car. Evidently the door opened due to the fact that driving the car into the ditch forced the body and the lock failed to hold. The theory that the door lock handle on the inside was hit by Plautz's arm was advanced by Tony Cahak this morning when he was called to the office of the Blatz Brew ing Co. it to look at the truck. Plautz met death instantly when he fell out of the car. The immediate cause of death was a broken neck. His chest was crushed and he had minor cuts and bruises about the face. Three people were in the car at the time of the accident. Schuman was driving and Mrs. Ethel Roberts, house-keeper for Plautz, was sitting between Schuman and Plautz. The truck was traveling south on highway S, and Schuman claims that another car, going in the opposite direction, was approaching at a high rate of speed and forced him off the highway. Schuman drove into the ditch in order to avoid hitting the other car. The car, according to Floyd Huggins, traffic officer, traveled in the ditch for about 200 feet before it came to a stop. Not much damage was done to the Blatz car, except that one front tire was punctured and the front bumper slightly bent. Neither Mrs. Roberts or Schuman suffered any major injuries. Mrs. Roberts suffered a few minor scratches on her face and neck, and Schuman suffered a wrenched back. Schuman is under a doctor's care this morning because of a nervous shock. Mrs. Schu- (continued on Page Seven) HENRY PLAUTZ FATALLY HURT IN FALL FROM DITCHED TRUCK (Continued from page 1) mann said that her husband came home last night in a semi-daze. "He couldn't even tell me just what happened", said Mrs. Schumann. Schuman is employed as driver of the Blatz Co. truck. He left yesterday afternoon to deliver goods to concerns in the small towns east of Antigo. He picked up Plautz and Mrs. Roberts before leaving Antigo, and was taking them for a ride while he made deliveries. Plautz was well known in Antigo. He followed the upholstering business for a number of years and of late had his shop in the rear of his home on South Superior street. His wife died about ten years ago. He is survived by three children, two boys, Charles and Chester (twins) age 12, and a daughter, Loraine, age 10, and a brother, Edward, who is married and lives on Irving street. He was born in Sheboygan Falls.
