LeComte-LaCount b: 28 February 1843 in Manitowoc Cty, WI d: 25 May 1903 in Merrill, Lincoln Cty., WI CIVIL WAR VETERANS DIES Dr. Louis B. LaCount, Former Manitowoc Resident Passed Away in Merrill Dr. Louis B. LaCount a former Manitowoc County resident and Civil War veteran passed away yesterday at his home in Merrill aged 60 years, death being due to a fall received in April. He is well known throughout the city and county as one of a family of six brothers that enlisted to the war all living through the struggle. The LaCount family was perhaps one of the earliest settlers in this section of the state. Joseph LaCount Sr. coming to Manitowoc with Pliney Pierce, father of Jerome Pierce in 1846. The former settled on a farm just outside of the present city limits. The deceased Louis LaCount was born February 18, 1843, and received his education in the schools of this city. In June 1861 he enlisted in Company A, Fifth Wisconsin Infantry, the first Manitowoc company that went to the front. He was a strong personal friend of ex-Judge J.S. Anderson both attending school together and being tent mates during the war. Of the other five brothers that enlisted Joseph Hr. became a Lt. in the 21st Wisconsin and after the war went to Kansas where he dies a few years later. After mustering out of Company A, 5th WI, Louis from Manitowoc to Green Bay where he resided for a number of years and was united in marriage to Miss La Clair of that city. He attended medical college and after getting his degree became associated with his brother Dr. David LaCount at Chilton, Calumet County. After several years residence there he removed to Merrill, his brother David going to Wausau. The deceased was a member of the famous light brigade. Besides his wife, one daughter four brothers survive him. The deceased will be buried from his late home at Merrill. All the civil war veterans here knew the LaCount family well and will learn with regret of the dmeise of Dr. Louis LaCount.
