Eliza Thomas was born August 26, 1860, in Canada and when 15 yrs of age, she came to the United States. Before coming to this city in 1918, she was a resident of Tripoli for three years. October 31, 1898, she was united in marriage to Michael Smith at Menominee, MI. Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of the Methodist church. Due to the absence of Rev. T.H. Runyon of the Methodist church, Rev. C.M. Horneland of Scandinavian Lutheran church officiated at the funeral services. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, eight children, Ernest, George and William Payne all of Racine, Lillian Loveless, now Mrs. Oscar Lattermann of Marquette, MI, Eliza Loveless, now Mrs. Bert Barker, Wellington Loveless and Edward Smith of this city and thirty grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 from the Wellington Loveless residence on Wisconsin Avenue. The following pallbearers laid the body to rest in Greenwood cemetery: Frank Barney, George Cassell, Jacob Nick, Sr., W.C. Baumgartner, George nick and Harry Taylor. William and Ernest Payne of Racine were here to attend the funeral services.
