WI], March 17, 1899, Page 4, Coloma Station news column Fred BARTZ, of the Bartz brothers and oldest of the firm, died Tuesday of that most dreaded disease, consumption. A short service was held at the residence after which he was taken to Westfield for burial. A more fitting obituary next week. --------------------------------From the March 24, 1899 Plainfield Sun, Friday March 24, 1899, Page 4 Fred G. BARTZ, son of F. W. BARTZ of Westfield, passed away at his home in Coloma Station. He was born in the town of Mecan, Marquette County, on the 6th day of December, 1865. When a chil he moved with his parents to the town of Springfield, where he resided until he was 26 years of age. On the 23rd day of March, 1892, he was married to Miss Maggie ALEXANDER, and they started immediately for North Dakota. In the fall of 1893, they returned and he entered the mercantile business with his brother Henry at Coloma Station, in which business he remained until his death. About two years ago he was taken with what was then thought to be a severe cold. The doctors pronounced his didease consumption and recommended a change of climate. He went west for two months in the summer of 1897, with the hopes of bettering his condition, but derived no benefit, and has gradually failed ever since, being confined to his bed but three weeks before his death. He bore his sufferings without any complaint, and about midnight on the 13th of March, he was called to rest; he died quietly at peace with God. Mr. BARTZ is survived by a wife, one daughter and a son, his father and mother, three brothers and two sisters...following brief services at the home the remains were taken to Westfield by rail, accompanied by a large number of friends and relatives from Coloma Station. Regular services were conducted at the German Church, Revs. Lutz and Foss officiating. Burial was made in the Westfield cemetery.
