At noon he ate his dinner as usual after which he mowed hay a short distance form the house. At 2:30 someone of the family missed Mr. Grant from the seat of the mower and after an investigation he was found a short distance away apparently dead. Dr. Riley was summoned and after an examination stated that the cause of his death was due to heart trouble. James Grant, Sr., was born at Fort Edwards, N. Y., May 3, 1840. He was united in marriage to Julia A. McLeod at South Granville, N. Y., March 11, 1860. After living at Fort Edwards seven years they moved to the farm north of Oxford where they have continuously made their home. To this union were born seven children, all of whom, with their mother, are left to mourn the loss of their father and husband. He is also survived by a brother, Zack Grant, and a sister, Mrs. Luther Pike, both residents of Oxford. Mr. Grant was a loving husband and father, a man of good character and was respected by all his friends and acquaintances. He was a great church worker and with his wife united in Christian fellowship with the M. E. Church and was always seen at church when his health and weather conditions permitted. The funeral was held from his home Saturday afternoon, Rev. Foss of Menominee Falls officiating. Interment was made in the village cemetery. The pallbearers, Halsey Pike, Lewis Grant, Ransom Pike, Fred, Harvey and Ed Grant are nephews of the deceased.
